10 Healthy Habits that stand the test of time

ree

  1. A regular sleep and wake routine- sleep is associated with healing the body, balancing hormones, detoxification, heart and emotional health. Maintaining consistent times around waking and sleeping helps the body fall asleep easier and wake naturally

  2. Staying sufficiently hydrated- water is so crucial in helping the body eliminate waste properly and maintain good gut health, improve blood pressure, reduce the chances of poor energy concentration and headaches, and keep your mouth fresh too!

  3. Moving your body, for at least 20 mins per day- our bodies are not designed to be sat behind desks for most of the day. Exercise and causing 'stress' to the body helps maintain muscle strength, bone health and also support gut mobility and has been shown to improve mood.

  4. Eating meals that consist of quality protein, fibre (fruit, veg, wholegrains) and healthy fats- food is fuel and is one of the simplest and also most pleasurable IMO way to maintain good health.

  5. Limiting scroll time- technology is a wonderful thing, however too much of anything becomes harmful and social media is no different. Its one of the major culprits to lowered mood and increased anxiety, poor sleep habits, low energy and lost time! Let's take the power back and be more mindful about how we are spending our idle time.

  6. Having a creative outlet/hobby that you do for fun- hobbies shouldn't be something only children and the wealthy should get to enjoy. Hobbies keep our brains active, promote socialising and engaging with others, and depending on what they are help to keep our bodies and minds active, which is helpful for so many reasons from preventing loneliness and isolation, encouraging creativity and supporting emotional health and resilience.

  7. Having a sense of purpose, no matter what your job title- purpose drives up and keeps us going. Purpose helps provide direction, especially when we lose our bearings and get lose occasionally.

  8. Being part of a tribe- community is a key aspect of wellbeing for us humans. We were not built to survive alone and while solitude is helpful on occasion, knowing you have a circle of those around you to trust, turn to and enjoy time with is an important aspect of being alive.

  9. Feeling safe and secure in your own skin- unfortunately, we cannot always control outside factors of the world and those around us, who may provoke uncertainty or even danger. Knowing how to manage your nervous system and create an environment where you feel peace, is one of the most basic elements of human health, reducing fear reducing stress and anxiety- which are often the culprit of so many physical ailments.

  10. Living life according to the things you deem important to you, aka your values- an exercise I love to do with clients is helping them realise what their values are and how they can start living more closely to them. These can include family, adventure, security, love, peace, joy. etc. The result of someone living like this is almost always a more happier being.
